JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Do you want to contribute to a safer and more secure society? As a correctional officer in a prison and detention center, you are the foundation of the security work. You work in teams with other professionals to maintain a safe and secure environment and to motivate clients towards a life without crime.

The daily work involves locking and unlocking living quarters, searching premises, and supervision, as well as providing counseling and preparing for release, among other tasks. The role of a correctional officer requires a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness. The work is varied, and there are many development opportunities for those seeking continued employment. At Salberga, there are several different departments to work in, including central security, isolation units, and community detention/restriction detention.

It is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change.

The probationary employment begins with three weeks of introduction in the Salberga operational area. After a few months of service, we will schedule when you will start the mandatory basic training of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The training lasts eight weeks and takes place during paid working hours. Ongoing assessments will be made before the probationary period transitions into a permanent position after six months.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
  • Completed secondary education or other education combined with work experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
  • Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Work experience in corrections, security work, or in psychiatry.
  • Experience in the construction sector or service work.
  • Relevant language skills.
  • A valid driver's license (B).
